In November Leanne Tennant will be travelling from her home in North QLD to showcase at this year’s Australian Music Week in Sydney, fortunately for us she’ll be stopping off in Newcastle to perform a very special one off intimate show at the amazing Sunset Studio. Lucky enough to be supporting is this pelican.
Tucked away behind the Pepper Town Cafe just over the bridge from Tighes Hill TAFE, Sunset Studio is Newcastle’s best venue you’ve never heard of, offering the most intimate live musical experience in town. It’s also BYO which helps the back pocket. Seats are extremely limited so get in early and grab your tickets. Leanne Tennant is on the rise and this just may well be your last opportunity to experience her in a venue this small.
Leanne Tennant is the recent winner and multiple nominee of a Qld Music Award for her track Gentle Annie. Her live performances are receiving praise from the Courier Mail, themusic.com.au and audiences throughout Australia. She is this years recipient of an exclusive mentorship with Kram from Spiderbait and was last year nominated for Australian Artist of the year (Au Review), the Grant McLennan Fellowship, included in the Triple Z Hot 100, and the Billy Thorpe Scholarship. She took out winner for best “Blues & Roots” artist 2015 at Qld Music Awards with her track Bearing the Crown and her new album RED WINE, LATE NIGHTS is receiving huge praise from The Sydney Morning Herald, The Courier Mail with the leading single Gentle Annie scoring official rotation on Double J and again huge praise from Rolling Stone. She has received support from radio across the country along with being added to rotation on American music video channel ZUUS Media and aired on BBC Radio, RAGE and MTV. She was recently premiered on Rolling Stone in their ‘top 5 x songs for the week’, and a PBS fm Featured album.
“Hearing her, without having seen her live, you can imagine she’s standing there like Big Mama Thornton, with a guitar pointed at you and a no-nonsense attitude.” – THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD
“Right from the haunting acapella intro, Leanne Tennant’s commandingly haunting vocals latch on. “Gentle AnnIe” — the first track lifted from her forthcoming second album, Red Wine, Late Nights — teasingly edges towards complete collapse or euphoric explosion (dependent on your own perspective), as Tennant slowly succumbs to the soulful darkness of her late-night world.” – ROLLING STONE
“Songs inspired by a Hollywood movie about a nymphomaniac that was named after a 1927 Blind Lemon Jefferson blues number. What’s not to get excited about?” – RHYTHMS MAGAZINE
